Sparkly, Sparkly...

It's kinda like staring into a swimming pool... no? lol

This is two coats of China Glaze Caribbean Blue which is a glass flecked sky blue. I topped it with one coat of Sinful Color's Nail Junkie. A clear teal jelly base with multi-sized hexagon shaped glitter in gold, green and light blue. Did all that make sense?

This actually GLOWS inside a tanning booth...

(SIDE NOTE: You might be thinking.... girl from Miami... tanning booth? Yes. I have a thing against sand. Like the fact that it gets everywhere and in everything. Tanning salon? Pull up, get off, stand in *ten minutes pass* walk out, get back in air-conditioned car, drive away, done. No sand. See? And yes, I wear SPF. *wink*)

On to the polish! This is Misa's Lather, Rinse, Repeat and try as I did with the camera (I practically stood on my head), there is no way to capture the awesomeness of how bright and neonish this shade is. It's a pinky/corally, super pretty color. I usually dont like such bright shades on me but this I LOVE! Two creamy, perfect coats.

I want... I want... I want...

Flipping through my InStyle magazine I noticed several tidbits of information on their take of the top Summer shades, which led me to their website which is how I came across these. Some of these are readily available... some I never knew existed. Aldo? I buy their shoes, didn't know they made polish (but knowing is half the battle, eh?) lol

Nails Inc.: Totally want this shade. So cute. This is Eden Grove. Nails Inc.

Butter London: Super cute bottle. Super cute website. Totally looking forward to my next paycheck. This shadet is called Chuffed. Butter London

Np2: stands for Nail Perfection and evidently there are shades you can mix and match with top coats, all in one easy to carry combination. This shade is called Incandescent. Check them out at Np2

Aldo: Now, I absolutely LOFF their shoes. The polishes, I'll have to see. At this time, they're only available in stores. This bright pink shade is called Mini Bikini. Aldo Store Locator

TopShop: Of course! The UK is the place to find these and one little NY store in the states. Don't get me started because I'll go on a rant about how much I'm totally lemming Catrice! :( Anyway, this shade is Parma Violet. TopShop

And lastly we have Sonia Kashuk. Readily available at your friendly, neighborhood Target or online at Sonia Kashuk

NOTD: Sheer Fantasy

Hey Ladies!

This is my manicure from June 25th. This is Orly's "Fantasea."

Now I can't remember if this is 2 or 3 coats. It's probably 2. Regardless of how many coats I did, I should have done at least 1 more. The application is great but the color is a bit on the sheer side. Here goes my horrible attempt at describing this color: A pinkish purple base with a weird sometimes pink / sometimes copper / sometimes slightly goldish shimmer. Got it? No? Who cares! It's pretty and that is all that matters.

Kinda reminds me of OPI's MerryBerry Mauve. Coincidentally, All You Desire has a recent amazing swatch of it (here). Yes, I know these are different colors. They aren't identical twins but they could be half-sisters.

On a side note, I encountered the weirdest thing the other day. Have any of you guys seen Essie and OPI polishes at Target? The selection is extremely small and I didn't see any current/new colors. But something about the OPI bottles caught my attention. All the serial numbers were scraped off! I thought that was a little... shady...! Has anyone else encountered this?

And then at CVS I saw some OPI's too. But they had black label bottles. I don't understand what is going on! LOL!

Either way, Happy Polishing!

Zoya Anaka - Revisited

Lissi did this a little bit ago but I just couldn't help it. What a great color. It's just so vibrant, bold magenta/fuschia/with purple and pink shimmer... kinda. All I know is that I was driving around staring at my nails every so often. Great application with two coats. Another "can't beat that" go-to shade.

Happy Polishing!

NOTD: Holo Reece

Holy Backed-Up Blogger Batman! Good thing I do this for free or I'd be fired by now!

This post is going to be short. I was caught up for like a full day and then BAM... Here I am again. With a bunch of things to share and no posts done.

Here is my mani from June 29.

This is 2 coats of Zoya's "Reece" with 1 coat of China Glaze's "Wireless Holographic" topcoat. "Reece" is like a rose gold douchrome color. This is from the Reverie collection.

The "Wireless Holographic" topcoat is a freak of nature. You can turn any polish into a holo! The more coats you add the more you get! Love it!

Happy Polishing!

The Grass IS Greener on this side!

This is some SERIOUS green... but it's soooooo pretty and shimmery. Couldn't and wasn't up to getting that creative for the mid-week change but eh, not bad. I had just received a mini Misa haul (to be posted soon as well) and was undecided on what shade to wear (with almost 400 bottles to our name, I know I'm not alone on that decision-making conundrum.)

Something about Misa... formula is always great. Maybe it's also the heaviness of the brush holder? Cuz it isn't plastic and maybe that makes a difference... or maybe it's my craziness but it feels more solid in the hand, giving you more control. Well, at least I think so. *shrugs*

Anyway, here is Greener Grass!
(with some foliage using what else, CG Millenium...lol)

Morticia's Nails by Essie

Designed by Bebe Neuwirth who is playing Morticia on the Broadway musical “The Addams Family”, this set is comprised of three nail polishes: Bone Chilling White, Blood Curdling Red and Midnight Tango. The actress has debuted these gothic nail color looks as a representation of her character’s style, with all proceeds going to The Actors Fund.

Featuring some pretty nice shades, I think it's an October must-have.

Perfect Formula Collections

Hey ladies! I meant to share this with you weeks ago but things got a little crazy here.

I present to you Perfect Formula:

While running her family business, Cosmetic Coatings Corporation, (one of the largest manufacturers of nail polish products in the world) nail polish queen Shari Gottesman has created nail color collections for some of the beauty industry’s most well known names.  And, now as the founder of her own luxury nail care brand, Perfect Formula, Shari has finally brought to fruition her own vision of the perfect nail color collection: Perfect Formula The Perfect Color.

A brand most known for its “suit of armor” strengthening base coats, Perfect Color offers a unique strengthening formula in a sophisticated, sumptuous color palette. Formulated with Instant Strength Technology, including keratin and calcium, these nail colors offer immediate strength and thickness to the nail in a long-lasting formulation.  The custom designed brush along with the perfectly pigmented polish ensures a smooth, even application every time.

“I wanted to do something special for my own color line,” says Shari.  “Perfect Formula is not just about beautiful looking nails but also strong, healthy nails, so I really wanted to create the best formula available for the polish and then pump it up a bit to create a thicker, stronger coating that would shield the nails with lots of extra strength.”

The initial base collection includes eight classic shades:

Available in June.

Shari is also introducing a seasonal Perfect Color collection: a sweet Summer palette of bright, pretty pastels.
Fresh, happy and lushly pristine, Perfect Formula’s Spring/ Summer Perfect Color collection evokes the feminine, pretty pastel watercolors of Monet’s Water Lilies.  The colors, from left to right are:  Jardin, Nympheas, L’Orangerie, Giverny, Sunrise, Waterlillies.  Available in June.

NOTD: Gwin is on Fire!

Hey Ladies!

This is my mani from June 24th.

Meet Zoya's "Gwin" from the Reverie Collection. I did 2 coats of this but I should have done a 3rd. I had some VNL. Zoya describes this as a warm sunny melon metallic douchrome with a frosty hint of gold. Personally, I describe this as FIRE! This color is pretty crazy. The gold really pops in the sunlight. As all the Zoya's I own so far, application was great. Not streaky at all.

This mani only lasted one day but it wasn't Zoya's fault... It was mine. I broke a nail last week on my right hand and used a Nailene fake nail to cover it up (review on this to follow) because I refused to have a short-nubby nail. I don't know what happened with me and that nail but I suffered a massive chip. I even lost a piece of the french line that the nail has. So since I had to bring out the nail kit either way, I figured I'd just do a polish change.

Happy Polishing!

P.S. - Keep an eye out for an upcoming giveaway!

I HEART this Color!!!!!

I'm talking about Color Club's Gossip Column. I love blues as it is, not more than purples though, but still, love 'em. This is just a really cool (and I don't mean temperature) shade of dusty dark teal. Like old, yet modern; creamy, yet shiny like a jelly. It's just really nice. Good application. Perfect in two.

Then I decided to stamp. I used Konad's M51 using China Glaze's Millenium which, I gotta tell 'ya, is just about the best thing on the planet to stamp with. What is up with that formula? It comes out crisp and opaque with your first attempt. Millenium and it's sister, 2030...my two top fave polishes to stamp with. Now if I could only get that formula using other shades, not just silver and gold, I'd be complete.

Happy Polishing!

NOTD: Robyn + SmART Nail Stencils (Review)

Hey Ladies!

I have fallen behind again. But now you all know why. I have all my pictures ready though so I'll start the postings throughout this week. This is my manicure from June 22nd.

This is 2 coats of Zoya's "Robyn" from the Flash Collection. Zoya describes it as a perfect turquoise cream. The name describes the application: Perfect! I usually fear creams because they can sometimes be a pain to apply. However, the application on this one was flawless. But I wouldn't describe this as a turquoise. Maybe more like an insanely bright blue sky. It has that same bright quality as a neon would. But it's not a neon so it doesn't dry matte. This color really is stunning!

I then used my new SmART Nail Stencils. I decided to go with the stars (image N022 in their catalog). I placed the stars on my thumb and ring finger using China Glaze's "Tempest." "Tempest" is a hypnotizing blue/purple semi-douchrome color. The best swatch I've seen has been on Lacquerized's blog (here).

SmART Nail Stencils Review

I finally used my SmART Nail Stencils that I won from Evil Angel's giveaway (original post here). Even though their website has a great description (here) and frequently asked questions section (here), I'm going to type up my own 2 cents worth of an opinion on this product. Since I won these I didn't have to pay for them (obviously). But they are definitely worth the money I would of had to paid to get them.

These are transparent little square shaped stickers with a design cut out from the middle. They are quite flexible so you can stick them on any shaped nail. Press the sticker onto the nail and be sure that the area around the design has properly adhered to the nail. You can tell just by looking at it and seeing if there is air underneath. If you've painted your nails, be sure that the paint is dry enough before applying the stencil sticker. Once the sticker is on the nail, apply the nail polish color you want the image to be over the image area. Be sure not to go over the edge if your nail is somehow exposed. LOL! Once you've applied the color for the image, immediately remove the sticker off your nail. Don't wait for the paint to dry because it can get dry on the sticker. We don't want to end up pulling the image off the nail.

It is ridiculously simple to use and the outcome is flawless. I'd dare to say it's easier and faster to use than stamping. This product is also great because you can use the stickers more than once. Just place the sticker back on the sheet and clean off the polish with some remover. Then you can place the sticker on another nail and use it again. Plus, I think it's easier to center these or place them exactly where you want them to be before applying color. Unlike stamping, which somethings is hard to see where it will end up, you can keep removing the sticker until you get it in the right spot. Also, you can use the edge of the stickers to make perfect lines.

I will keep track of how many times I've been able to reuse the stickers until they have to be thrown away and I'll report back when I have that number. So far, I'm at 2.

Overall, I recommend these stencils. They are $2.99 per pack, which contains 10 stickers. They have a nice variety of images so you are bound to find something you like. I also recommend these if stamping isn't your thing for whatever reason.

My Father's Day Post

Warning: This post may be a little depressing. At least for me it is...

I know I haven't posted since last weekend (even though I have plenty of content to post). Good thing Maria has posted so there has been activity on the blog.

My father passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2010, one week after Fathers Day, at the age of 78. Early last year, he was hospitalized with a serious case of pneumonia. My family strongly believes that things in life happen for a reason even if the reason isn't always obvious at that moment. That hospitalization led to the discovery of cancerous cells in his lungs. Luckily, it was discovered early enough and was removed. He then underwent chemotherapy as a preventative measure. But in April of this year we discovered that he had very aggressive bone cancer. We were told that no treatment would cure him. At most, treatment might slow down its progression. But the strong treatment necessary would make him so sick. The outcome didn't outweigh the consequences. We were told he had months left.

We knew that dreaded day was coming but we didn't know it was going to be so fast. The Friday before Fathers Day his health started to deteriorate fast. We were warned that there wasn't a lot of time left. This entire process has been so mentally draining and full of mixed emotions. I wish this wouldn't of happened. I am relieved that he is no longer suffering. The last 2 months of his life were no way to live. I am happy that he is no longer feeling pain. I'm sad that he is no longer here. I wish our relationship had been better. We both have different personalities and would bump heads a lot. But he is my father, I always loved him. I am happy that our relationship was so much better over the last year. And most importantly, I cherish the fact that the last time I saw him awake (Fathers Day at around 1am) and in a right state of mind he told me he loved me very much.

This experience has taught me a lot. I am not posting this to get sympathy from others. I am posting this to remind everyone that life can be unpredictable. I always thought I'd have my parents around for a long time. I never thought that at the age of 25, I'd be crying over the fact that my father would never get to see me graduate from law school. I never thought I wouldn't be walked down the aisle by my father the day I get married. I am posting this because I want to remind everyone to appreciate those little moments in life that you share with the ones you love. I am posting this to remind you all to cherish your family because you don't know when it might be the last moment.

This is what I wore to his memorial service June 27. This is 2 coats of OPI's "Aphrodite's Pink Nightie." It's a beautiful frosty pink. I felt it was appropriate.

Where is the SUN when you need it?

This is Miami! The sun is always B-E-A-M-I-N-G and I'm usually trying to stay away from it (just too hot). But now that I want to take a picture of how pretty Nubar's Reclaim is, it's MIA. *scratching head*

I applied two coats of Reclaim by Nubar and used the same stamp from my fail the other day, the little leafy pattern from BM05, and placed one on each nail using OPI's Jade is the New Black. It's super-duper subtle and you can only REALLY notice it in person (you guys tell me), but I think it's kinda cute. Still can't get it to photograph as nice as I'd like it to though. *ordering light box from link provided by the gracious You've Got Nails* (wink, smile and a million thanks)
