Pure LOVE!

This has just ranked as one of my Top 5 polishes.  It's beautiful, gorge...  It's OPI's Purple with a Purpose.  It's a medium purple with pink microshimmer and tiny amounts of blue microshimmer.  love, Love, LOVE!  The blue microshimmer just makes the shade glow.  Can't explain it.  You seriously have to see this shade in person and/or in the sun.  Two coats, perfect application, as usual with OPI...  see?

Swatch - Essie's Fancy Delancey

Howdy!
(No, I'm not southern but Mari has gotten me into country music lately so its starting to stick!) (Hi gals.  Mari here.  And btw, I don't go around saying "Howdy" either.  Just wanted to make that clear.)

I have another swatch for you. Today I'm showing off Essie's Fancy Delancey. Adorable name! This color is also perfect for summer! It's a fuchsia pink with purple undertones. The application reminded me of a jelly but this color is a yummy creme. It was sometimes so bright in the sunlight that it reminded me of a neon! It took 3 coats for full coverage. I have no complaints about the formula. This swatch was done without base coat and without topcoat.

Do we like it? What is your perfect summer polish?

Dr.'s Remedy Winter Wonder Nails Swatches / Review

Hey Ladies!

I have a review for you today! This is a brand I have never heard of before. I have to admit that I wasn't disappointed! Just goes to show that you shouldn't be afraid to venture beyond the big name brands.

These swatches were done without base coat and without topcoat.

Desire - Dr.'s Remedy describes this as a cocoa-meets-hot-fudge handsome hue. This is a yummy simple dark chocolate brown creme. The formula was great. 2 coats for full coverage.

Healing - Dr.'s Remedy describes this as a seductive pewter with deep blue undertones. This is another super yummy light gray creme with a subtle blue undertone. The formula was great yet again. Not chalky. I used 2 coats for full coverage.

Revive - Dr.'s Remedy describes this as a shimmer-infused, Wizard of Oz inspired shade of crimson. This is such a vibrant crimson/ruby red with gold shimmer. The formula was great. I used 2 coats for full coverage.

Overall - The quality of these polishes was amazing. The formula was great. Not chalky, thick, or watery. Excellent. Personally, I love the square bottle shape. The top/cap feels good in your hands while applying polish. The brush is your standard style. Easy to work with. I recommend them!

Dr.'s Remedy Enriched Nail Polish is available for $16 online at www.remedynails.com or by calling 1-877-323-NAIL. Dr.'s Remedy is a new line of doctor-inspirred cosmetics that are dedicated to using clean, hypo-allergenic, anti-fungal ingredients. The birth-child of two New York-based podiatrists, Dr. Adam Cirlincione and Dr. William Spielfogel, Dr.'s REMEDY proves quintessentially-perfect for any person looking to better the condition of her skin and nails.

Orly's Pixie Dust

Cute no?  Not so much a neutral, since it's basically gray, but I still feel it's office-appropriate without being mannequin hands.  (Luckily I work at a law firm where they could care less what color my nail polish is.  And even before when I was a court reporter, I'd go before a Judge on a daily basis and my nails were blue or green.  Some would even ask for the name of the shade I was wearing.  I'm just saying... don't put it passed your boss that they could be a bit open-minded to something other than beige for your manicures (which I don't even own.))  Sorry about the rant.  Anyway, Orly never fails me and here we have two coats of Pixie Dust.

Grey with slight silver glass fleck and a tiny amount of blue microshimmer.  It's in there, for sure, because it's just not plain gray but you gotta look closely.  It gives it just enough of something different.  It's nice.   *shrugs*

Swatch - China Glaze's Chiaroscuro...

Hey Ladies!

Today I have another swatch for you but I must warn you that I'm going to be brutally honest. Well, I'm always honest but today I'm going to be brutal. I can't help it. I really really dislike this color. I don't know what made me buy it. I'm talking about Chiaroscuro... This swatch was done without base coat and without top coat.

I felt comfortable with the coverage after 4 coats. Its a little on the sheer side. Other than that, the formula was great. I think I'd describe this as a nude pinkish peach with a shimmer that varies from gold to green. However, the green shimmer is a little on the lime side. LOL! It's not the typical green tone you see in shimmer.

Now I have to admit that I hate this color. I really do. And don't take it as a reflection on China Glaze because they're awesome. I just think it's all the wrong colors for my skin tone. Remember, I have an issue with greens and I tend to like colors that aren't safe. I'm studying to be a lawyer so I rather enjoy crazy polish now in case I end up getting a job where crazy polish is highly frowned upon. LOL!

In the end, I own the color so I wanted to share it with you gals. Maybe one of you out there likes it! Just because it doesn't work for me doesn't mean it won't work for someone else.

And.... random but every time I see this polish name I think of Churrasco! Yum!

Do any of you guys have a polish like this? A polish you totally hate and don't know why you bought it?

Swatch - Color Club's Rule Breaker

Hey Ladies!

I was able to get some swatching done a while ago. So I'll be posting them up little by little. Our weekly manicures take posting priority though. LOL! I have 2 reviews to do and post but I'm still trying to catchup with my schoolwork since my trip this weekend.

First up is Color Club's Rule Breaker. This color is really stunning. I see it and think of royalty for some reason. Rule Breaker is from Color Club's Wild at Heart collection from Fall of 2009.

This color is a deep teal/green shimmer. It almost wants to be frosty... but its not. You only need 2 coats for full coverage. Application was flawless.

This swatch is without basecoat or topcoat.

Who has this color? Who likes it? I love it. My skin tone doesn't work well with certain greens... usually the ones that, as I call it, are puke or swampy greens... But dark greens and I are on good terms.

Swatch - Misa's Embroidered Emerald

Hey Ladies!

Today I've got a longtime lemming for you! I fell in love with this color when I saw it on Jellynat's blog (here). I'm talking about Misa's Embroidered Emerald. This gorgeous polish is a plum jelly with a ton of blue/green shimmer. It's pretty sheer so I needed 4 coats for full coverage. The formula was excellent. Personally, I love the bottle. The cap is a little heavy which actually makes applying the polish easier. I don't know how to explain it... just take my word for it. This swatch was done without basecoat and without topcoat.

I LOVE this color. It's everything I thought it would be and more. It's stunning. Amazing. Unique. Gorgeous!

Anyone else like this color?

China Glaze Crackle Collection

LET’S GET CRACKING

China Glaze Introduces Six New Crackle Colors

Los AngelesCA – December 2010: Roughed up grunge meets gorgeous glam! China Glaze brings a whole new level to the game with “Crackle” polish! Create endless edgy looks and make a statement with fun, fearless, color. Everyone has asked for it, and now China Glaze is giving it to them! The six different Crackle colors include:

  • Lightning Bolt – White Crackle
  • Black Mesh – Black Crackle
  • Broken Hearted – Pink Crackle
  • Cracked Concrete – Grey Crackle
  • Fault Line – Purple Crackle
  • Crushed Candy – Teal Crackle

An innovative technology allows you to play with a wide array of color combinations and achieve an edgy, new wave look. This unique formula was developed to give your nails a “crackled” design over traditional nail color. Contrasting colors are used one over another to achieve a deconstructed shatter look that takes place right before your eyes. Instant art for your nails!

How do you do it? It’s easy! Apply your favorite China Glaze glitter, shimmer or crème. Depending on the color you are using, apply either one or two coats for full coverage. When the colored enamel is dry, brush on a thin layer of the Crackle color. Allow the Crackle to work its magic during dry time. After approximately 5 minutes when the crackled design has completely formed, apply a top coat to seal the design for prolonged wear.

China Glaze Crackle will be available starting February 2011 at Sally’s Beauty Supply and BSG in 12 piece displays and 3 pack color kits which will include a base color, a crackle glaze (Black Mesh, Broken Hearted or Crushed Candy) and a China Glaze Top Coat.

China Glaze is free of DBP, toluene, and added formaldehyde.

China Glaze nail lacquers are available through salons and professional beauty supply stores nationwide. For more information, visit: www.chinaglaze.com or follow China Glaze on Twitter: http://twitter.com/ChinaGlaze

NOTD: What are you!?!?!

Hey Ladies!

Today I don't know what I have for you. Seriously... I don't know what this is. I have no idea where Mari found this polish. I'm betting it was a local drugstore/pharmacy. I've never seen this brand before. The color doesn't even have a name... I'll just call this #9 since that is the only thing on the label that isn't standard label text. I'm guessing the brand is WEC and Pronto is in reference to the fact that it's "Quick Dry." This is a gray cream with sort of blue/purple undertones. I almost had a perfect even application with just one coat but in the end I did 2 coats. Better safe than sorry. The polish seemed to be a little watery though... but I'm happy with the end result anyway.

I love the tone of this color. I normally stay away from random drugstore brands because the colors are usually so boring. However, I was actually pleased with this one. Maybe I'll start giving random brands a second chance.

China Glaze's Anchors Away Swatches / Review

Hey Ladies!

Happy Valentines Day! I'm still in St. Louis visiting my boyfriend and loving every minute of it. I managed to sneak some time to prepare this post since I did all the swatching before I left. I have been excited about this collection from China Glaze since I first heard of it. You have no idea how happy I am to have this in my possession. Simply amazing! Let's get started!

All swatches were done without a base coat and without a topcoat.

Below Deck - China Glaze describes this as a flirty mix of taupe and violet. I think the purple tone is a little stronger in this color than the taupe tone. This is such a yummy creme. I applied 2 coats just out of habit but it was about 98% opaque with just 1 coat! Supposedly it is a dupe (or close enough) to China Glaze's Channelesque.

Ahoy! - China Glaze describes this as a delightfully intense pink that flashes with reflective glass speck. The bottle kind of lies for this color. I thought it was going to be darker. But I wasn't disappointed with what came out of the bottle! I'd say this is an intense magenta pink. It's a jelly but was opaque after just 2 coats. Another nice shocker! There is also an awesome amount of gold shimmer. This color is definitely a stunning member of this collection! Application was perfect. (Please ignore the fact that it looks a little red. My camera REFUSED to cooperate!)

First Mate - China Glaze describes this as a sophisticated and rich navy creme. This is a perfect navy blue. Not too light and not too dark. You can still tell it's a blue! Like Hey Sailor, this is a traditional blue when you think of a nautical theme.

Hey Sailor - China Glaze describes this as a vibrant creme red. Bingo! Vibrant, check! Creme, check! Red, check! This is a traditional red when you think of a nautical theme. And it is sooooo vibrant. Firecracker red! I applied 2 coats for full coverage.

Life Preserver - China Glaze describes this as a highly pigmented and luxurious poppy creme. I'd say this is a slight burnt orange creme. Yet, its still vibrant. I applied 2 coats for full coverage.

Lighthouse - China Glaze describes this as a multi-dimensional, bright yellow glass speck. This yellow is beyond bright... It's blinding! It's a jelly and a bit on the sheer side. I applied 3 coats. I only have one issue with this color. It's perfect when the light hits it because it looks full and stunning. However, when the light doesn't hit it then you see the VNL. The bad part is that since it's yellow it makes your nails look stained underneath. Maybe I'm just weird.

Knotty - China Glaze describes this as a micro-particle beige shimmer. The shimmer is somewhat silverish. I don't think I've ever seen a color like this. It's different. I applied 3 coats. The only problem I have with this color is the same issue I had with Lighthouse. It's great when the light hits it and the shimmer pops... But when there is no direct light it can make it seem like your nails are stained. Obviously, this color doesn't do that as much as Lighthouse does. Maybe a 4th coat could have made this more opaque and solved that problem for me.

Pelican Gray - China Glaze describes this as high shine, cool toned gray creme. This is a cool light gray creme with very subtle shimmer. I think the shimmer is what makes this color so pretty, unique, elegant, etc. I applied 2 coats.

Sea Spray - China Glaze describes this as a calming pale blue creme. I'd say that this is a light pale blue creme with a gray tone to it. This color also has subtle shimmer like Pelican Gray. So beautiful. This is easily my FAVORITE of the collection. I applied 2 coats.

Starboard - China Glaze describes this as a hip and playful green creme. This is a vibrant grassy green creme. I'm not a fan of greens but this one actually works with my skin tone. I like it! I applied 2 coats for full coverage.

Sunset Sail - China Glaze describes this as a delightful peachy pink high shine creme. I'd say this is a peachy beige creme with subtle shimmer (like Sea Spray and Pelican Gray). I applied 2 coats.

White Cap - China Glaze describes this as a whimsical and sparkling multi-dimensional white. This is like a sheer milky white jelly with gold shimmer. This is Frosty's (Holiday 2010 Collection) half-sister. This is the most versatile color of the collection. I used 3 coats for this application. You can wear it alone (if you don't care about VNL). You can layer it over other colors to give it a little boost.

____________________________________

Overall View

Application - Application for all of these were great. All of the cremes were almost 1 coaters. You could probably pull it off if you do a careful generous application. Or you can just do your standard 2 coats if you don't want to be so careful. The best part of the cremes is that none of them were chalky. Definitely a big plus for me! All of the colors applied evenly. No pull by the brush. None of the colors were watery. Overall, excellent!

Colors - This collection has an awesome range of colors. It hits just about every color on the spectrum! You are bound to find something you like (if you don't like them all). How could you not? These colors kick off the Spring season to an awesome start!

Names - I love the names of the colors in the collection. Not only are they appropriate for a nautical theme but they also somehow match the color in the bottle. Get what I mean?

____________________________________

So what do you gals think? I know you guys have seen these swatches a bunch of times but I still want to know! Which are your favorites? Personally I love Sea Spray, Pelican Gray, Below Deck, White Cap, First Mate, and Ahoy!

These were sent to us for review. Please read our Disclosure Policy (here).

KOTD: Girlie Skulls

Hey Ladies!

I arrived in St. Louis last night to visit my boyfriend for Valentine's Day weekend. With all the excitement I forgot to schedule a post for this morning. Oops! Better late than never right?

Today I'm sharing a polish that I got from a swap with Colour Victim. On a side note, thank you for the amazing swap! This is the second swap I do with her and I am more than happy with the polishes I got. I wish Catrice was sold in the US though! *insert angry face here* One of the colors I requested in the swap was Plum Play With Me. I had seen swatches by other bloggers and just loved it! I have nothing in my collection like it... At least not that I remember. Plus the name is super cute (that is why the boyfriend picked it). I usually ask him to pick a random color when I can't decide what to paint next (and I can't decide quite often). He picked purple so I read him the name of a few purple colors and this is what he picked. Plum Play With Me is a dark plum creme. The application was smooth and creamy and yummy. I can't really explain it. Just trust me. Full coverage could have been achieved with one coat if I had been careful. But I'm not that patient so I just did 2 coats.

I haven't stamped in a while and I miss having cute stuff on my nails. So I stamped this cute little skull image from m39 (from the BornPretty plates) on my ring fingers. I decided to be a little girlie and stamped using the Konad Special Polish in Pink.

Now let me explain something... Yes, the pictures are a little on the crappy side. The sun was out today but it wasn't sunny (if that makes sense). I couldn't get a decent picture outside. So these pictures were actually taken indoors. To make matters worse, my camera pictures were coming out yellowish (from the lighting) no matter what I did. These pictures were actually taken with my cellphone since it was the only way to get them looking somewhat normal.

And another thing... Yes, my thumb nail is shaped weird. I am a righty but photograph with my left hand. I have 3 nub-nails on my right hand and am hating it. I went to grab my book bag the other day with my left hand and it slipped. However, I still had a grip on it so it ended up ripping off the corner of my nail. I REFUSED to have another nub-nail so I just filed off the broken corner... Of course, I didn't think it would end up in a picture when I did that. Oh well, welcome to the world of a nail blogging.

Lovie Dovie - what a cute name for VDay, no?

Yet, not a cute application at all.  What a pain in my rear!!!  Streaky and gloppy... and even after some thinner... streaky and gloppy.... so I wasn't a happy camper.  I rarely do pinks on my hands though I'm definitely a pink on my toes kinda girl but my hands?  Nope.  Regardless, these were two very difficult coats of Lovie Dovie by Essie.  Very opaque Pepto-in-a-bottle pink.  Pretty cute, but still a pain.  I hope it was worth it!

NOTD: Now I Want A Cupcake

Hey! Here is another mani I had done months ago. Yes I know... Shame on me. Let's put that fact aside though and focus on this amazing polish. This is Ciate's Cupcake Queen. This is a vivid magenta with blue flash. It was opaque in 2 coats. The application was amazing. It's actually so much more vibrant in person than it looks in my pictures. You'll just have to take my word for it. A fellow blogger, Jellynat, has amazing pictures of this polish that really capture how bright it is.

So in the end all I have to say is: Get this polish! It's awesome. Simple as that!

Let's dance, shall we?

GORGEOUS!!!!  That's it.  Post done.  *shrugs*

I'm kidding.  This is two coats of Bailamos by Orly... a gorgeous oceany blue green (aqua?) with I want to say - light green?  - or aqua? microshimmer.... can you see how vibrant it is?  (I'm going to have to start pulling out my color wheel just to describe colors more accurately.  Between sea green, light teal, aqua, turquoise, seaspray... sheesh.  Just look at the picture.  That's the shade.  LOL)  It's beautiful.  That's what matters to me.  Orly never disappoints.  To me, it always has great application, love their rubber-coated bottle tops (God knows I've had to acetone tile in my past) and the amount of polish you get... it's just a great deal any way you look at it.

NOTD - I'm Addicted To Chocolate!

Good Morning! Today I have OPI's I'm Suzi & I'm a Chocoholic. The name of this color suits me. My mother says I drink so much chocolate milk that I'm Hershey's Syrup main income source. LOL! This is a warm rusty brick red creme color. I only needed 2 coats for full coverage. I wonder if I could have gotten full coverage if I had been paying attention while painting my nails. I was distracted by the TV. I couldn't help it. Myth Busters was on! I didn't put enough paint on the brush for the first coat so there was some VNL. This color is tricky for me. I think it has a split personality... Sometimes it looks reddish and sometimes it looks brownish. I like it either way. Some brown colors scare me because I don't think they go well with my skin tone. But those are usually the puke toned browns. LOL!

NOTD: Driving Hazard

This polish should be labeled: "Hazardous for your health." Not because it contains harmful chemicals... but because its a freaking driving hazard! The moment the sun hits this color... BAM! You can't help but stare at it and you find yourself no longer paying attention to your surroundings. Not a good thing to do when driving to school! This color is freaking insane! It's an intense royal blue with a metric ton of blue shimmer and a fair amount of purple shimmer (I tried to capture this as much as I could). You notice the blue shimmer no matter how much lighting there is... but it really pops when you are out in the sun and the purple shimmer becomes noticeable. The sunlight really makes your nails look electric. I did 3 coats just to be safe. I thought I saw some VNL when I had only 2 coats.

I think this is a must-have for any polish loving person. I am obsessed with the color blue. I know I always say "this is my new favorite." However, this is honestly my new favorite blue! LOL! Plus the bottle cap color is super cute. =)

Nothing fancy...

This is a shade that looks much prettier in the bottle... or maybe it's just my skintone.  I'm sure this would look great on someone less pink because the swatch of it looks fantastic.  Maybe I should have Lissi give it a try.  *shrugs*  Who knows.  Anyway, this is WEC Pronto in shade 204.  A really pretty (in the bottle, at least) dusty lilac with gold microshimmer and slight flecks in gold as well.

Sinful Color's Pretty In Pink Collection 2011 Swatch / Review

Hey Ladies!

I've got a review for you that is just in time for Valentine's Day. I received 3 polishes from Sinful Color's latest collection: Pretty In Pink!

All swatches are without base coat and without top coat. Let's get started...

Scandal - Sinful Colors describes this as a no-nonsense neon, slick and sensational. This polish was a little tricky. It sometimes looks like a creme on the nail. But it looks like a jelly in the bottle. This polish was difficult to photograph... but aren't all neons that way? LOL! It is definitely a little more neon in person than in pictures. But this is as close to color accurate as I could get it to be. Scandal is like a muted pink with a slight orange tone to it. Super pretty! It's sheer like a jelly. I applied 4 coats for full coverage.

Soul Mate - Sinful Colors describes this as a muted peachy pink with a melon twist. I couldn't describe this better myself. It's a super yummy peachy creme color. Peach colors don't usually go well with my skin tone but I really liked this one. Application was great and not chalky like cremes can sometimes be. You can get away with 1 coat if you apply it evenly and a little thick. However, I did 2 coats just to be safe.

Glass Pink - Sinful Colors describes this as a sheer, shiny, shimmer-happy bliss. This is a great addition to the collection. Its a very light pink sheer color with goldish toned shimmer. It's great as a topper (layered over another color) or as a standalone color. Like I said, it is a sheer color. I used 3 generously heavy coats for the coverage you see. The application and formula were great.

Sinful Colors are available at major drug and mass market stores. In my area (Miami, Florida), Sinful Colors can be found at Walgreens. However, I haven't seen this collection at my local stores. Fortunately, Sinful Colors can be ordered at 1-800-448-0763 or online at SinfulColors.com. Plus, you can't beat the $1.99 price!

So what do you gals think?

Zoya Intimate Collection Swatch / Review

Hey Ladies!

I'm very happy to share the following with you guys! As you know from our last post (here), we got a little surprise in the mail on Thursday. I tried to swatch them that same night but I wasn't able to finish and I wanted to post the review all at once. So here we go!

(All swatches are without base coat and without top coat.)

Caitlin - Zoya describes this as a smoky purple-tinged medium gray with smooth, opaque creme finish. I agree with all of that except for the purple-tinged part. Maybe it's my vision (or my obsession with all things blue) but it seemed to me to be a smoky blue-tinged gray. Either way, this is officially my favorite of the collection. It's a super yummy creme polish. The application was flawless. One coat could be enough for full coverage if its a nice thick coat. I used 2 in this swatch.

Dannii - Zoya describes this as a medium orchid purple with pink and champagne highlights and flecks of silver metallic shimmer. I didn't really see the pink or silver shimmer. You definitely notice the champagne shimmer. It sometimes can be as strong as a goldish type of color but not overpowering. It is still a very beautiful color. Application was also excellent for this one. Only 2 coats for full coverage.

Dove - Zoya describes this as a soft, light neutral gray with an opaque, glossy creme finish. I couldn't agree more. And as you can see on the bottom right picture, it can be really glossy (without topcoat). I was afraid that this color might be like your typical pastel creme - chalky! But it wasn't! That was a nice shock for me. Again, the formula was great. Application was flawless. You only need 2 coats for full coverage.

Jules - Zoya describes this as a sparkling neutral light taupe with gold, silver and champagne metallic shimmer. I didn't notice the silver shimmer too much. Maybe its because there is definitely more of the gold and champagne shimmer. You can tell the difference in tone between the two. This color overall reminds me of the shimmer in Dannii. Application and formula were perfect. You need 2 coats for full coverage.

Marley - Zoya describes this as a lightest baby lavender touched with a hint of gray-silver and a subtle pearl finish. I can see the lavender in there... but sometimes it seems to be a little like a baby pink too. The pearl finish really is subtle enough to not be overbearing... but obvious enough to make the color unique. Get what I mean? Not too much and not too little. This was another color I was afraid would end up being chalky. But it wasn't! Thank you Zoya! Again, application and formula were amazing. Only 2 coats for full and even coverage.

Sorry the sticker wasn't on the bottle. Don't know if it was missing when we got it or if it fell off at some point and I just didn't notice.

Gemma - Zoya describes this as a light muted olive green with an overlay of blue and violet duochrome shimmer. This description is dead on. Can you see the blue and violet shimmer in the left picture? I tried to capture it as much as possible. This color was the big shocker for me of the collection. 99.8% of greens don't go well with my skin tone. So I was already telling Mari that this polish could permanently stay in her stash when we first got these polishes... But after using it, I think I would like partial custody. LOL! It is a really nice shade of olive green. And the shimmer... Oh the shimmer! That blue and violet is so unique and soooooo awesome! I don't think I've seen a green like this before. Application and formula were great. You need 2 coats for full coverage.

Overall Opinion: This collection rocks! It has a nice variety of different colors. I would say it could have used a blue but Caitlin looks bluish to me (even if my vision might be slightly off) so I'm more than happy! The application and formula were great with all of them. I was afraid some might be kind of chalky but they weren't at all! Across the board, all polishes only needed 2 coats for full coverage.

I definitely think this collection is worth having in your polish stash.

My personal favorites of this collection are Caitlin and Marley. But I have to admit that Gemma left me a little stunned considering my rebellion against most greens.

So what do you gals think? Which colors do you already have? Or which colors are you planning on getting? Which are your favorite? Do share!
